Someone suggested I do a thread to help people new to roleplaying with roleplaying. So here it is...
First of all, if you are signing up here, go to the "Need Help?" board, then click on "New Member? Read this first!" thread. Follow the directions to sign up.
When you sign up, use a username that you can remember, because after you decide on your character's name, you can change the display name to the character's name...but the username stays what you originally put it as.
Now that you are signed up, let's go over some basics. Essentially the idea of roleplaying is to play a character and to stay into character (unless you are talking in the chat box, or in the "Back to Reality" thread, though some forum games will ask for you to be in character.)
When roleplaying, there are two ways to roleplay...
The first way is that whenever you type something in between two of these "*", you are doing an action. And anytime those do not appear, your character is speaking.
The second, and most used roleplay type, and the one you may want to use on other sites, is one where you use "quotes" when your character is speaking, and everything else is an action. This method is set up similar to book writing.
-I allow either of those ways, but some other sites may not.
Now, In both of those types of roleplaying, whenever you need to say something out of character you use brackets or "()" sometimes you use double brackets or "(())".
On most other sites, a roleplay thread is not ok to join unless it says "open" in the title somewhere. Which means that anyone can join. On Lionheart Academy, THIS SITE, all roleplays are open. Except roleplays that say "Private" or have a member name in the title to say it is just for the person posting and the character they included in the title.
Typically when joining a site they will have you sign up, then fill out a sort of application. So always remember to check and see if you need to fill out an application.
It is with upmost importance, that before you join up a on a roleplaying site, that you read the rules. First of all, some of their rules may be something you would not agree with and you may not want to be part of that roleplay forum because of some of the rules. Second of all, it is good to read the rules anyways, so that you do not violate a rule, and get kicked off a site or temporarily banned. Also, on some roleplaying sites, they include some kind of thing they require you to put into your application so that they know you actually read the rules.
After you have posted your application, you can then claim an avatar (aka: Face Claim/Picture Claim/Celeb Claim). Check to see if the claim is mentioned in the rules or if there are rules in the face claim board. If the rules state that you must wait until your application has been accepted, then you must wait until your accepted. If you do not need to wait until your application has been accepted, or if your application has been accepted, then go to the board for requesting your face claim.
Sometimes there is a template for claiming a celebrity/(anime/manga/cartoon/comic book) character/picture, if not then post the name of the celebrity or character and post a picture of them, or post the picture you claim.
If you have any other questions about roleplaying, please PM me, or post them in the "New to Roleplaying?" Board which is located inside the "Need Help?" Board. Or you can click the link below to go straight to it...

That is all I could think of that people new to roleplaying might need to know, I will add more as I think of it, and I will add a "dictionary" thread soon for roleplay terms, but otherwise, Welcome to Roleplaying!
